There are large amounts of disadvantages to drug taking, so in the initial first use of a drug, what possesses a person to do so?

What makes drug taking so attractive?

I dont believe that the portrayal of drugs being attractive is right. As it is more so to do with social and societal pressures as well as in some cases health pressures.
By this I maen that although it may be attractive to younger generations whi are not aware of the risks, some people take 'safe' drugs as you called them as a release, or as a way of being accepted as normal within certain social groups. For example if within your group of friends and peers taking drugs is a normality, in order for you to belong to that group you also begin to accept these norms.
Although no drugs are safe at the moment drugs such as cannabis have the same classification as anabolic sterroids, which makes you wonder what all the fuss is about
